This pit kit is designed to provide a more efficient and simpler method for pouring pits comparing to traditional methods. Instead of manually welding curb angles together, this pit kit bolts together in minutes and can be installed without any room for error. With the 3 walls, you don't have to frame the pit with plywood, which also means that your build is going to be properly sized and aligned. The last thing you need is an incorrectly sized pit or an "out of square pit" that needs to be repoured or fixed.
By using a pit kit, you will save many hours of labor that would otherwise have to be spent making sure the pit is built properly, including the buying and measuring of materials needed. Available in a variety of standard and custom sizes, our pit kits are made from high quality steel that is laser cut in our Toronto facility. You can be sure that our kits, just like our hydraulic dock levelers, are made with quality in mind.
A pit kit is a piece of equipment that will make the dock leveler construction process faster and easier. It consists of a set of components that is designed to be installed in the form of a pit at a loading dock. The concrete can then be poured around it, ensuring that the pit is properly sized and ready for the dock leveler to be installed.
There's a few reasons why using a pit kit is preferred:
Pour in Pans are similar to pit kits, but in this case the dock leveler comes welded to the metal panels, rather than separate. So that means that the dock leveler will need to be installed at the same time that the concrete is poured, which is long before it is actually needed. This can increase up-front construction costs, and also increases the risk of damaging the dock leveler during the installation process.
However, we do offer both options to our customers. Ask us about pour in pans if that's the route that you would like to take.
Preformed pits require a high leveler of precision in measurements and installation, in order to ensure a proper fit with the dock leveler later on. Due to this being a more manual method, it also requires more labor from your contractor, and extra costs for all the materials needed before pouring. A pit kit, on the other hand, is relatively affordable and easy to install.
An unleveled dock can create significant safety hazards, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries for workers and damaging equipment. It also gets in the way of smooth movement of material handling equipment between the dock and the truck, resulting in operational delays and inefficiencies that can disrupt your workflow.
There is of course a chance of increased wear and tear on your equipment, as well as damage to the goods you are handling if something ever does happen. Simply put, the risks are just not worth it. You need to absolutely make sure that the pit is poured in the proper manner. This is why we recommend using a pit kit or even pour-in pans.
