Si vous entrez dans un entrepôt pour la première fois, vous serez aveuglé par tant de jargon qui vous fera tourner la tête. Certains mots sont explicites, certains sont utilisés dans l’ensemble du monde de la logistique, mais certains sont très régionaux et même propres à des entrepôts spécifiques.
Voici une liste du jargon d'entrepôt que nous avons trouvé et ce qu'il signifie.
Jargon de l'entrepôt (en anglais)
- Cans / Span cans = Containers & overseas containers
- Skid = Pallet (though normally 'skid' is used to refer to a specific type of pallet, many use it to refer to all pallets)
- Brett = Another word for pallet
- Hand stack = Partial pallets that are loaded by hand
- Pinwheeling = Alternating 48x40 pallets sideways and straight into a trailer
- Safety pallets = Another word for partial pallets since if a pallet falls in the racks, you can use the to save it
- HiLo = A forklift (regional to the Detroit area)
- Tow motors = Another term for forklifts, originally a brand name but now used generically
- Trucks = A general term for forklifts in some regions
- Lift = Another term for forklift
- Raymond Reach, reach truck, counter balance, Moffit = Different types of forklifts or lifting equipment
- Bock = Forklift
- Jeeps = Yet another word for forklift
- Stickers = Dunnage used in a lumber yard
- Crossers = Another word for dunnage
- Odds = Pallets wider than 48 inches
- Long Sh*t = Pallets longer than 58 inches
- Block pallets = Also known as 'bare pallets' or 'white skids'
- Hilow = Reach truck
- Forklift = Sit down forklift
- Scooter = Electric pallet jack (note that it is absolutely not recommended to actually use them as scooters)
- Scuds = Another word for electric pallet jacks
- Pacer = Stand up forklift (not a reach truck)
- Chimney block = Alternating straight and sideways skids
- Double sideways = Loading pallets sideways
- Single double = Singles in between the doubles to move weight off the nose of the trailer towards the rear
- Dropping = Unloading
- Cherry pickers = Stock pickers
- Bio area = Refrigerated area
